Lake Taghkanic State Park encompasses 1,568 acres in the rolling hills of New York's Hudson Valley, centered around a 168-acre lake formed by glacial activity. The campground offers 55 tent and trailer sites in the East End Camp loops, plus 27 cabins and 4 cottages for those seeking more amenities. Sites are nestled in wooded settings with access to two sandy swimming beaches. The park provides a full range of recreational opportunities including rowboat, paddleboat, and kayak rentals, a public boat launch (gasoline motors prohibited), disc golf course, playgrounds, and sports fields. Miles of hiking and cross-country ski trails wind through diverse habitats of hardwood forests, wetlands, and old farm fields. The Taconic Region location makes it an accessible getaway from the New York City metropolitan area. Camping facilities include hot showers, flush toilets, drinking water stations, and laundry. A concession stand operates seasonally. Note that the Campground Rec Hall is closed for the 2026 season due to fire damage. Quiet hours are strictly enforced from 10 PM to 7 AM, and stays are limited to 14 consecutive nights.

Directions

From the Taconic State Parkway, take the Lake Taghkanic exit and follow signs to the park. Large trucks, RVs, and campers should enter from the Route 82 entrance at 1528 State Route 82, Ancram, NY 12502.
