About
Housatonic Meadows State Park encompasses 452 acres in the rock-strewn valley of the Housatonic River, surrounded by the rugged hills of Connecticut's northwestern uplands. Established in 1927, the park provides an ideal setting for outdoor recreation with camping under tall pines on the riverbank. The campground offers 61 wooded sites, each with a picnic table, fire ring, and grate, accommodating up to six people per site with a maximum 14-day stay. Additionally, four rustic two-room cabins are available, each featuring a double bed and two bunk beds, sleeping four to six people. The park is particularly popular for its fishing opportunities. A two-mile stretch of the clear, cold Housatonic River, including the park shore, is restricted to catch and release fly fishing only, with a trout stamp required. Anglers can test their skills on trout and bass in these pristine waters. The campground provides modern amenities including bathhouses with hot showers, dishwashing facilities, potable water, firewood for sale, and a dumping station. The park operates seasonally from late May through early September. No alcohol or pets are permitted in the campground. Reservations can be made through Reserve America, with sites available for both Connecticut residents and non-residents. The rustic cabins require a two-night minimum stay and are available for reservation on Fridays and Saturdays. The park is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to sunset, providing access to hiking, picnicking, and the scenic beauty of the Housatonic Valley.
