About
Schodack Island State Park occupies a former farm island along the eastern shore of the Hudson River, providing a unique camping experience just south of Albany. The campground offers 66 sites across multiple loops: Creekside Loop, Riverside Loop, and an overflow area. Sites 1-43 feature 50-amp electric hookups with both 220V and 110V outlets, while sites 44-67 are non-electric tent sites. Maximum RV lengths range from 30 to 50 feet depending on the specific site. The park's location on the Hudson River makes it ideal for kayaking, canoeing, and fishing, with a boat launch providing direct water access. Eight miles of multi-use trails wind through the island's floodplain forests, which serve as important habitat for migratory birds and waterfowl. The park is known for excellent birding opportunities, particularly during migration seasons. Campers have access to modern amenities including showers, flush restrooms, and a dump station. The park also features a playground, volleyball courts, horseshoes, and picnic facilities. Note that none of the campsites offer water views, and glass containers, alcoholic beverages, and pets are prohibited on the beach area.
Directions
From Albany, take NYS Route 9J south for approximately 13 miles. The park entrance is located at 1 Schodack Island Way in Schodack Landing.
