About

Taconic State Park's Rudd Pond Area is situated along the Taconic Mountain Range in southeastern New York, sharing borders with Massachusetts and Connecticut. The campground features 41 sites including 15 tent sites and 26 tent platform sites, each with a picnic table, fire ring, and grill. Campers enjoy views of the ridge, pond, and surrounding countryside from their sites. The 64-acre Rudd Pond serves as the centerpiece for recreation, offering unguarded swimming in a designated area, boat rentals (rowboats and canoes), and fishing for bass, sunfish, and pickerel. Visitors can launch their own rowboats, canoes, or kayaks with a regional boating permit. Gas motors are prohibited, but small electric trolling motors are allowed. Hot water showers and public restrooms are conveniently located in the campground. The park provides access to an extensive trail system ranging from easy to challenging terrain with spectacular views. Nearby attractions include the Harlem Valley Rail Trail, a paved path for walking, running, and biking, and portions of the Appalachian Trail. The charming village of Millerton is just six minutes away. Winter activities include ice skating and ice fishing when conditions permit. Hunting is allowed in season for deer, bear, turkey, squirrel, fox, and ruffed grouse with appropriate New York State licenses.
