About
Macedonia Brook Picnic Shelter is situated within Macedonia Brook State Park, a 2,300-acre property in Kent that became state land in 1918 through a gift from the White Memorial Foundation. The park's exciting terrain resulted from the slow wearing down of its hard rock formation base. The picnic shelter accommodates up to 80 people and provides a base for exploring the park's outdoor offerings. The Blue Trail crosses Cobble Mountain and several other peaks, offering outstanding views of New York State's Catskills and Taconic Mountains. Numerous springs and streams throughout the park provide opportunities for stream fishing and cooling off during hikes. The park features over 10 miles of trails showcasing varied terrain, making it popular for hiking, bird watching, and wildlife viewing. The shelter requires advance reservations through the Connecticut state parks system, with bookings accepted up to 11 months in advance. Reservations must be made at least 7 days prior to arrival. Amplified music and bounce houses are not permitted. While the park's overnight campground operates seasonally from late spring through fall, the picnic shelter is available for reservation year-round, though visitors should note that parking fees are collected at the gate and heavy weekend use may lead to gate closures if the park reaches capacity.
