About

Promontory Pit Road Campground is a dispersed camping area located in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests in Coconino County, Arizona. As a dispersed camping site, it offers a primitive, undeveloped camping experience with no designated campsites, amenities, or services. There are no restrooms, potable water, trash collection, or fire rings provided. Campers using this area must be fully self-contained. Bring all necessary water and supplies, and pack out all trash and waste. Campfires are permitted when no fire restrictions are in effect, but campers should always check current fire conditions before starting any fire given the elevated fire danger levels common to this region. The site operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations or fees required. The Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests allow dispersed camping for up to 14 consecutive days within any 30-day period. Campsites should be established at least 100 feet from any water source and within 300 feet of roadways to minimize environmental impact. Groups of 75 or more require a free special use permit from the nearest Ranger District office.

Directions
