About
Prineville Reservoir State Park occupies the shores of a 15-mile-long reservoir in Central Oregon's high desert canyon country. The Crooked River, confined by Bowman Dam, creates this 3,000-acre lake that draws anglers targeting smallmouth and largemouth bass, rainbow trout, and catfish. The main campground operates year-round and includes 22 full-hookup sites, 22 electrical sites with water, and 23 tent sites. Five deluxe log cabins provide a more comfortable lodging option, including one pet-friendly cabin. Jasper Point Campground, located three miles east of the main area, adds 28 first-come, first-served electrical sites and operates seasonally from May through September. Both campgrounds feature flush toilets and hot showers. Beyond the developed areas, numerous primitive campsites dot the 43-mile shoreline, accessible by boat or vehicle depending on location. The reservoir is a popular destination for water sports including boating, waterskiing, and swimming. Two boat ramps provide lake access. The surrounding sagebrush-covered hillsides offer hiking opportunities and wildlife viewing, with deer, eagles, and osprey common sightings.
