Along the Chimney Rock segment of Central Oregon's Crooked Wild and Scenic River, Chimney Rock Campground offers a relaxing woodland setting amongst Western Juniper trees and beneath massive Columbia River basalt rock formations. The campground features 16 campsites spread throughout the woodland, making it one of nine BLM-managed campgrounds along this scenic river corridor. The Lower Crooked River was designated a Federal Wild and Scenic River in 1988 and displays rugged beauty with 600-foot high basalt cliffs and unique rock formations carved by the narrow Crooked River. The campground provides excellent fly-fishing access, with an accessible fishing platform located near the entrance. Easy river access is available along the adjacent Crooked River Back Country Byway (State Highway 27). Recreational opportunities include hiking the nearby Chimney Rock Trail, which accesses the campground's namesake butte prominently located above the highway opposite the campground. The area also serves as part of the 18-mile Crooked River Canyon Scenic Bikeway, a moderate route designated in 2018 that takes riders from picturesque farms to towering cliffs. Wildlife viewing opportunities include deer, river otter, antelope, beaver, and various waterfowl species.
