About

Castle Rock Campground is the first in a series of twelve Bureau of Land Management recreation sites along the Crooked Wild and Scenic River, south of Prineville, Oregon. The six-site campground sits in the shadow of its namesake Castle Rock formation on the Chimney Rock section of the river. The Lower Crooked Back Country Byway runs through the area, providing scenic access to camping, fishing, hiking, and wildlife viewing opportunities. This primitive campground operates year-round on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations accepted. Facilities are limited to an ADA-accessible vault toilet. There is no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. Cell phone service is unavailable at the campground. The maximum stay is 14 days. The campground provides direct access to the Crooked River for fishing, rafting, and floating. Visitors should watch for cyclists on Highway 27 between Prineville and Bowman Dam, which is designated as a state scenic bikeway.
