About

Castle Rock Campground is the first of twelve Bureau of Land Management recreation sites along the Crooked Wild and Scenic River, located 12.4 miles south of Prineville, Oregon. The campground offers six first-come, first-served sites nestled in a scenic canyon where Castle Rock looms above the Chimney Rock section of the Crooked Wild and Scenic River. The campground is situated along the Lower Crooked Back Country Byway and provides direct access to the river for fishing and scenic photography. The area features high canyon walls that create a remote, rugged atmosphere. The campground is maintained by the BLM's Prineville District and serves as a gateway to eight additional campgrounds, two day-use areas, and a trailhead along this scenic river corridor. This is a primitive campground with an ADA-accessible vault toilet but no potable water. Cell phone service is not available. The section of State Highway 27 between Prineville and Bowman Dam is designated as a state scenic bikeway, so campers should watch for cyclists on the approach road.
