About

Stillwater Campground offers 10 large, partially-shaded campsites along a placid stretch of the Lower Crooked Wild and Scenic River, approximately 14 miles south of Prineville. Managed by the Bureau of Land Management's Prineville District, this campground provides a scenic riverside setting for camping, fishing, wildlife viewing, and access to the Lower Crooked River Back Country Byway. The campground is situated along one of the quiet, flatwater sections of the Chimney Rock segment of the Crooked River, living up to its name. Some pull-through campsites are available, making it accessible for RVs and trailers. Day-use parking is also available for visitors looking to enjoy the river without an overnight stay. An accessible vault toilet serves the campground. Open year-round on a first-come, first-served basis, Stillwater charges $8 per night with an additional $2 fee for extra vehicles (maximum two vehicles per site; tow vehicles excluded). The 14-day stay limit applies. Campers should come prepared with their own drinking water as no potable water is available on-site. Cell phone service is not available in the campground. The section of road between Prineville and Bowman Dam is designated as a state scenic bikeway, so watch for bicyclists when traveling to and from the campground.
