About
Wiley Flat Campground is a rustic, no-fee campground located in the scenic Maury Mountains of Ochoco National Forest in central Oregon. The campground surrounds Wiley Creek, a shallow, narrow waterway that terminates at a small meadow within the camp's perimeter. This quiet setting makes it a peaceful retreat for those seeking solitude in the high desert ponderosa pine country. The campground offers basic amenities including vault toilets and picnic tables at each site, but campers must bring their own water as none is available on-site. There are no hookups, showers, or dump stations. The area is popular with horseback riders, and it's common to see groups from local outfitter guide services stopping for noon breaks. Access requires navigating Forest Service roads from Highway 380 southeast of Prineville. The final approach on Forest Road 16-400 passes a distinctive large ponderosa pine that appears to be in the middle of the road; campers should stay left at this landmark.
Directions
From Prineville, Oregon: Take Highway 380 southeast toward Paulina. Travel approximately 32 miles to the third bridge. Turn south onto Forest Service Road 16. Follow Forest Service Road 16 approximately 12 miles to the Wiley Flat sign. Turn right onto Forest Service Road 16-400. Stay left at the large ponderosa that appears to be in the middle of the road and continue for less than 1/2 mile to the campground.
