About

Powell Springs Campground is one of only three campgrounds in Prescott National Forest that remains open year-round. Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps, this historic campground sits along Hackberry Wash, a seasonal creek flanked by riparian vegetation. Ponderosa pines provide welcome shade throughout the 11-site campground. The campground offers primitive amenities including a vault toilet, picnic tables at each site, and fire pits with pedestal grills. Potable water is not available, so campers must bring an adequate supply. All trash must be packed out. Quiet hours are observed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., with check-in after 2 p.m. and checkout by noon. Dogs are welcome but must remain on a leash no longer than 6 feet. Access is via Cherry Road, a dirt road passable by passenger vehicles in dry conditions. The campground may close temporarily following heavy rain, snow, or when roads become icy. Contact the Verde Ranger Station at 928-567-4121 for current conditions before visiting during inclement weather.

Directions

Take Highway 69 to Dewey, turn left on Highway 169. Continue approximately 9.5 miles, then turn left on Cherry Road, a dirt road accessible to passenger cars except during wet weather. Follow the road approximately 4.5 miles to the campground on the left.
