Air Quality Alert issued July 1 at 11:13AM MST by NWS Flagstaff AZ

11:13 AM — July 2nd, 11:00 PM

The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) has issued an Ozone High Pollution Advisory for Prescott through Thursday. This means that forecast weather conditions combined with existing ozone levels are expected to result in local maximum 8-hour ozone concentrations that pose a health risk. Adverse health effects increase as air quality deteriorates. Ozone is an air contaminant which can cause breathing difficulties for children, older adults, as well as persons with respiratory problems. A decrease in physical activity is recommended. You are urged to car pool, telecommute, or use mass transit. The use of gasoline-powered equipment should be reduced or done late in the day. For details on this High Pollution Advisory, visit the ADEQ internet site at www.azdeq.gov/forecast/prescott or call 602-771-2300.

About

Playground Group Campground is a single-site group facility located near the summit of Mingus Mountain at 7,500 feet elevation in Prescott National Forest. Shaded by mature ponderosa pines and adjacent to a protected mountain meadow, the campground offers a secluded setting with pleasant daytime temperatures and cool mountain breezes that provide relief from Arizona's desert heat. The group site accommodates up to 100 people and includes 12 picnic tables, three large BBQ grills, and a large communal fire pit. An accessible vault toilet is on site, and trash service is provided. Campers must bring their own drinking water as none is available, though water can be obtained at the nearby Mingus Picnic Site. Mingus Lake is a short distance up Forest Road 104. The surrounding area offers hiking trails of varying difficulty. Jerome, a former copper mining town turned artist community, is seven miles northeast on Highway 89A. Tuzigoot National Monument and Dead Horse Ranch State Park along the Verde River are also nearby.

Directions

Take Highway 89A to Forest Road 104, located seven miles southwest of Jerome or 13 miles east of Prescott Valley near the Summit Picnic Area. Take Forest Road 104 approximately 1.5-2 miles. Playground Group Campground is on the left.
