Dead Horse Ranch State Park Campground provides a comfortable base camp in Arizona's Verde Valley with over 100 spacious RV sites and a dedicated tent loop. The campground sits at 3,300 feet elevation near Cottonwood, offering mild temperatures year-round and direct access to 10 miles of hiking trails along the Verde River. Most RV sites include potable water and 30/50-amp electrical service, with pull-through sites that can accommodate motorhomes up to 40 feet and truck-trailer combinations up to 65 feet. Generators are prohibited to maintain a peaceful atmosphere. The campground is divided into multiple loops: Quail Loop with 43 sites, Javelina Loop with 36 sites, Coyote Loop with 27 sites, and Ringtail Loop with 17 non-electric tent-only sites. Each loop provides access to modern, ADA-accessible restroom facilities with hot showers at no additional charge to registered campers. The park offers fishing in stocked lagoons, wildlife watching opportunities, and easy access to mountain biking trails in the adjacent Coconino National Forest. The park is particularly popular during spring and fall seasons.

Directions

From I-17, take exit 287 onto Highway 260 toward Cottonwood. At the intersection with Highway 89A/Main Street, turn left. Proceed to North 10th Street, turn right, cross the Verde River Bridge, and continue to the park entrance.
