Groom Creek Horse Camp Now Has Water!

The water system is back up and running at Groom Creek Horse Camp.  Campers no longer need to worry about bringing their own drinking water!

About

Located in the cool pines of central Arizona's Mingus Mountain, this campground provides a high-elevation escape with some of the most expansive views in the region. From various vantage points, campers can see the Verde Valley below, the red rocks of Sedona, the San Francisco Peaks near Flagstaff, and the distant Mogollon Rim. The campground sits conveniently between the towns of Prescott Valley and Cottonwood, each about 18-19 miles away for supplies. The campground offers 30 sites across several loops: 19 sites originally designed for RVs with electric hookups (currently non-functional due to lightning damage), 6 tent-only sites in Loop B, and a 5-site overflow tent loop that opens during busy periods. A group site accommodates larger parties. All sites feature fire rings and picnic tables. Vault toilets and potable water are available, though water faucets cannot be used for filling RV tanks. The Mingus Mountain area offers extensive recreational opportunities including hiking trails of varying difficulty, mountain biking, horseback riding, and even hang gliding and paragliding. A Forest Service host is on-site during the operating season. Cell reception is available with Verizon providing the best coverage.

Directions

From Highway 89A between Prescott Valley and Jerome, turn onto Forest Road 104 at Summit Picnic Site. Follow the dirt road approximately 2.5 miles to a 4-way stop. Turn right to enter the campground.
