* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible. * WHERE...Portions of north central, northeast, northwest, and west central Georgia, including the following areas, in north central Georgia, Cherokee, Cobb, Dawson, Douglas, Fannin, Forsyth, Gilmer, Hall, Lumpkin, North Fulton, Pickens, South Fulton and Union. In northeast Georgia, Towns and White. In northwest Georgia, Bartow, Carroll, Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, Floyd, Gordon, Haralson, Murray, Paulding, Polk, Walker and Whitfield. In west central Georgia, Coweta and Heard. * WHEN...Through late Monday night. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Multiple rounds of rainfall are expected to move across portions of north Georgia this afternoon through Monday evening. An anomalously elevated moisture environment exists over north Georgia which has resulted in high rain rates (2"+/hour) that are expected to continue through Monday night which will lead to an increased chance for flash flooding. Convective rainfall (showers and thunderstorms) may repeatedly train over areas, and have locally high enough rainfall rates to induce flash flooding in poor drainage and urban areas, as well as creeks and streams prone to flash flooding. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
About
Located in northwest Georgia's Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest, Pocket Campground takes its name from the low pocket of land surrounded by the steep ridges of Horn and Mill Mountains. The area was once home to Civilian Conservation Corps Camp F-16, and today offers 26 non-electric campsites arranged in a single loop with paved parking spurs and gravel tent pads. Each site includes a fire ring with grill, picnic table, and lantern post. A central restroom building provides flush toilets, and potable water is available from hydrants throughout the campground. The area accommodates trailers and RVs up to 28 feet in length. Cell service is very limited. The Pocket Loop Trail and interpretive trail lead through mixed pine/oak forest, past a small wildlife pond, and near food plots that attract deer, turkeys, and songbirds. Johns Creek, less than a mile away, offers trout fishing. Nearby attractions include Johns Mountain Overlook and Keown Falls Picnic Area. The nearest store and gas station are 8 miles away in Villanow, GA.
