About

Fort Mountain State Park is a 4,058-acre mountain retreat located at the southwestern end of the Cohutta Mountains in Murray County, Georgia. The park sits at 2,850 feet above sea level and features the mysterious 855-foot ancient stone wall believed to have been built by early Native Americans. The main campground includes 70 tent, trailer, and RV campsites split between Campground 1 and Campground 2, with additional primitive options including 4 walk-in sites, 6 platform sites, 3 pioneer sites, and 4 backcountry sites. Campers enjoy access to extensive recreational opportunities including over 25 miles of hiking trails, 27 miles of mountain biking trails, and horseback riding paths that wind through hardwood forests and blueberry thickets. The park's 17-acre lake offers seasonal swimming at a sand beach, fishing, and boat rentals including kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards. Historic features include a CCC-built stone fire tower and the enigmatic rock wall at the mountain's peak. The park also features seasonal miniature golf, educational programs, and a gift shop.
