About
Northbank Day Use Area Shelter sits atop Carters Dam, providing panoramic views of both Carters Lake and the Re-Regulation Lake. Located about 70 miles north of Atlanta in Murray County, the facility offers group picnic shelters available for reservation through Recreation.gov. Two shelters are available: the Large Shelter (CL-13) accommodates up to 100 people with parking for 50 vehicles, while the Small Shelter (CL-9) holds 50 people with 25-vehicle parking. Both shelters have electric hookups and picnic tables. The day-use area also features restrooms, a playground, basketball court, volleyball court, and horseshoe pits. This is exclusively a day-use facility with check-in at 8 AM and check-out at 5 PM. No overnight camping is permitted. A $5 day-use fee per vehicle must be paid at the fee machine upon entry, in addition to any shelter reservation fees.
Directions
From Atlanta: Take Interstate 75 North to Exit 293, turn right onto Georgia Highway 411 North, travel approximately 30 miles; take a right onto Georgia Highway 136 East; proceed approximately 2 miles; turn left onto Carters Dam Road; continue almost 2 miles and proceed straight into Northbank Day Use Area.
