About
Damsite Day Use Area Shelter is located on Carters Lake in the North Georgia Mountains, approximately 70 miles north of Atlanta. Carters Lake embraces a spectacular tract of foothills scenery in the Blue Ridge Mountains, covering 3,200 surface water acres with 62 miles of undeveloped shoreline. The day-use area features a first-come, first-served shelter (CL-10) with seating capacity for 30 people maximum, along with a popular three-lane boat launching ramp with courtesy dock, ample picnic sites, and restroom facilities. All picnic tables, sheds, and the shelter are available on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations accepted. Tables under the shelter cannot be moved. A $5 day-use fee must be paid at the fee machine for each vehicle (card only, no cash accepted). Boaters visit Carters Lake to enjoy its solitude and scenic beauty, whether in powerboats, sailboats, canoes, or kayaks. Damsite is the most popular boat ramp at Carters Lake and during peak recreation season can be temporarily closed when parking spaces fill up, with boaters redirected to other ramps around the lake. Fishing is popular on the lake with major species including largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, hybrid bass, striped bass, spotted bass, crappie, walleye, bream, and catfish. The nearby city of Ellijay is approximately 30 minutes away and is known as the Apple Capital of Georgia.
