About
Perry South Campground is located on the Metolius Arm of Lake Billy Chinook in central Oregon's high desert region within the Deschutes National Forest. The lake, created by Round Butte Dam, fills the canyons of the Crooked, Metolius, and Deschutes Rivers, offering 72 miles of shoreline and excellent fishing for bass, trout, salmon, and whitefish. The campground provides standard nonelectric sites, double sites, tent-only sites, and hike-to sites. Facilities include vault toilets and potable water available at standpipes, though campers should fill tanks before arrival. A boat launch with reservable dock slips is available exclusively to registered campers. Day use parking is $10, with Northwest Forest Pass and America the Beautiful passes honored. The surrounding rugged hills and diverse evergreen forest support wildlife including mule deer, coyote, black-tailed jackrabbit, and cougars. Hikers can explore the nearby Balancing Rocks Overlook or venture to Cove Palisades State Park for the Tam-a-lau Trail. The Wild and Scenic Metolius River is also nearby for flyfishing and whitewater boating.
