About

Lower Bridge Campground occupies a prime location along the Metolius River in Deschutes National Forest, approximately 23 miles northwest of Sisters, Oregon. The campground takes its name from the bridge where the river flows beneath, and the setting is quintessential Central Oregon high desert forest: towering ponderosa pines and aromatic incense cedars provide generous shade throughout the 11-site campground. The spring-fed Metolius River is the main attraction here, originating at Metolius Springs at the base of Black Butte. The crystal-clear, cold water supports rainbow trout, whitefish, bull trout, and kokanee salmon, making it a coveted destination for fly-fishing enthusiasts. The area also offers diverse hiking opportunities, from riverside trails to routes through subalpine forests. Nearby attractions include the Camp Sherman Fish Viewing Platform, Wizard Falls Fish Hatchery, and the Metolius-Windigo Trail, a 100-mile multi-use trail open to hikers, bikers, and horses. The Lava Lands Visitor Center and Newberry National Volcanic Monument in Bend provide additional exploration options, including Oregon's longest lava tube at Lava River Cave.
