About

Candle Creek Campground occupies a scenic spot at the confluence of Candle Creek and the Metolius River in Deschutes National Forest. Situated at the end of the Metolius Valley where the river's rapids begin, this small 10-site campground draws visitors seeking a quieter alternative to more developed sites along the river corridor. The spring-fed Metolius originates at Black Butte and flows through diverse coniferous forest and volcanic landscape, providing habitat for mule deer, coyote, cougar, and migratory birds. Fly-fishing is the primary draw, with the crystal-clear, cold water supporting rainbow trout, whitefish, bull trout, and kokanee salmon. Day hikers and backpackers can explore riverside trails and routes through subalpine forests. Nearby attractions include the Camp Sherman Fish Viewing Platform, Metolius Research Natural Area for birding, and the Wizard Falls Fish Hatchery. This is a primitive campground with no potable water, hookups, or showers. Each site has a picnic table and campfire ring with grill. Vault toilets are provided. The gravel access road and 18-foot maximum site spur length make this campground unsuitable for RVs and trailers; tent camping is the better option here.
