About

Monty Campground sits on the lower Metolius River in Deschutes National Forest, just upstream of Lake Billy Chinook. This small campground provides access to excellent fishing opportunities along the Metolius, which holds Wild and Scenic River designation. The 12 sites are designed for tent camping, with each site equipped with a picnic table and fire ring with grill. The campground is primitive with vault toilets but no potable water. Campers must bring their own drinking water. Electric hookups are not available. While small RVs and vans can technically access the campground, it is not recommended. The final miles past Perry South Campground are very rough, with narrow roads that require extreme caution for any vehicle larger than a standard passenger vehicle. Nearby attractions include Lake Billy Chinook, which offers 72 miles of shoreline across three canyon arms, and the Tam-a-lau Trail at Cove Palisades State Park. The area supports diverse wildlife including mule deer, coyote, and cougar, with the lake providing habitat for bass, trout, salmon, and whitefish.
