About

Opequon Junction Hiker-Biker Campsite sits at Mile 90.9 on the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal towpath in Washington County, Maryland, near Williamsport. It serves thru-hikers and bikers traveling the 184.5-mile trail between Georgetown and Cumberland. Like the other hiker-biker sites along the towpath, it provides basic primitive camping with no fee and no reservations required. The site accommodates 5-10 tents depending on configuration and includes a chemical toilet, picnic table, and fire ring/grill. Non-potable well water is available from mid-April through mid-November but must be filtered, chemically treated, or boiled before drinking or cooking. Water is turned off during winter months. Fires are restricted to the provided fire rings and grills. Campers may collect dead grounded wood or bring kiln-dried firewood from outside the park. This is a trash-free park requiring campers to pack out all waste. Quiet hours are 10 PM to 6 AM. The site is located 1-5 miles from the nearest parking area, making it accessible only on foot or by bicycle.
