About

Opequon Junction Hiker-Biker Overnight Campsite is a primitive walk-in campground located at mile 90.9 on the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park towpath. Part of a network of hiker-biker campsites spaced approximately every 5-7 miles along the 184.5-mile towpath, this site provides basic overnight accommodations for those traveling the historic canal route by foot or bicycle. The campsite includes a chemical toilet, picnic table, and grill with fire rings. Fires are restricted to the provided grills, and firewood may be collected locally but cannot be brought into the park. The site operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no fee charged and no reservations accepted. Overnight stays are limited to one night per site, per trip. Water is available seasonally from mid-April through mid-November, but it is non-potable and must be filtered, chemically treated, or boiled before use. Water is turned off from mid-November to mid-April each year. The campsite accommodates one group of up to eight persons and is subject to flooding after heavy rains due to its proximity to the Potomac River.
