About

McCoy's Ferry Campground is located at mile 110.4 on the C&O Canal Towpath in Washington County, Maryland, nestled in the mountains of Western Maryland between the towns of Big Pool and Big Spring. The campground offers 12 individual drive-in campsites, each accommodating up to eight people with a picnic table, fire ring, and grill. One group site is also available, accommodating up to 30 people with four picnic tables, grill, and fire pit. The group site allows space for two vehicles and a small trailer or support vehicle under 20 feet. The campground is particularly popular with boaters and anglers, featuring a boat ramp providing easy access to the Potomac River for kayakers and fishermen. Vehicle access is through a tunnel limiting height to 10 feet 3 inches, and RV/trailer length is limited to 20 feet maximum. The location is adjacent to Fort Frederick State Park, a rare pre-Revolution stone fort from the French and Indian War that offers living history programming on summer weekends. Seasonal water from hand pumps is available April 15 through November 1. Pit toilets and accessible portable toilets are available year-round. The natural beauty of the area is especially notable during autumn. Maryland fishing licenses are required for anglers age 16 and older. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited in all C&O Canal National Historical Park campgrounds.
