About

Oak Flat Campground occupies a scenic location along the Wild and Scenic Illinois River deep in the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest, approximately 33 miles from Gold Beach via a combination of paved and gravel forest roads. The campground features 15 primitive campsites equipped with picnic tables and fire pits, designed specifically for tent camping and small trailers. The site doubles as the Illinois River West Trailhead, providing direct access to Illinois River Trail #1161, a popular backpacking route through remote wilderness. This is a true pack-it-in, pack-it-out campground with no amenities beyond vault toilets. Campers must bring all their own drinking water and pack out all trash. There is no campground host or garbage service. The facility operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations. The remote location attracts experienced campers seeking solitude along a designated Wild and Scenic River, with opportunities for fishing, swimming, hiking, and horseback riding. Maximum stay is 14 days, and quiet hours are enforced between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.
