About

Northrup Creek Horse Camp sits within the Clatsop State Forest between Jewell and Mist, approximately 40 miles southeast of Astoria. The Oregon Department of Forestry operates this facility, which caters primarily to equestrians but welcomes regular campers as well. The campground divides into two areas: eight horse sites (1-8) with corrals and a separate three-site loop (9-11) for non-horse campers. Sites vary in configuration and requirements. Sites 3, 5, 7, and 8 are 50-foot pull-through or back-in sites that require campers to bring at least one pack or saddle animal. Sites 2, 4, and 6 are 40-foot back-in sites where horses are optional. Sites 9, 10, and 11 are 30-foot back-in sites without corrals, open to RVs and tents without horses. The campground provides vault toilets, potable water via hand pump, dish wash stations, and manure bins. All sites have picnic tables and fire grates. There are no hookups, showers, or garbage service, so campers must pack out all trash. Access roads remain in good condition year-round, and the camp provides direct access to equestrian trails in the surrounding state forest.
