About

L.L. Stub Stewart State Park opened in 2007 on a forested hillside in Washington County, about 30 miles west of Portland. Named for Loran L. "Stub" Stewart, who served nearly 40 years on Oregon's parks advisory boards, the park transformed former timber company land into a major recreation destination. Two campground loops at Dairy Creek offer spacious, well-spaced sites beneath second-growth forest. The main campground features 78 full-hookup RV sites with 30/50 amp electric, water, and sewer connections, accommodating rigs up to 90 feet. Walk-in tent sites have nearby parking and water access. Fifteen cabins sleep up to five people and include fire rings and picnic tables. The seasonal Hares Canyon Horse Camp provides 13 full-hookup equestrian sites with corrals. Brooke Creek Camp offers 21 primitive hike-in sites accessible via a 0.3-mile trail. More than 25 miles of trails wind through the park, including sections of the Banks-Vernonia State Trail. Trails are open to hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians depending on the segment. Day-use facilities include a fenced off-leash dog area at Hilltop, a disc golf course, playgrounds, and reservable meeting halls and picnic shelters.
