L.L. Stub Stewart Memorial State Park is a 1,654-acre recreation area located in Washington County, Oregon, just 34 miles west of Portland near the community of Buxton. When it opened in 2007, it was the first new full-service state park in Oregon since 1972. Named after lumberman Loren LaSells "Stub" Stewart, the park has grown from barren grounds to a well-established camping destination with mature trees and lush forest. The Dairy Creek Campground offers 78 spacious RV sites with full hookups including electric (some with 50 amp service), water, and sewer connections. Additionally, 12 walk-in tent sites provide a more secluded camping experience. For those seeking more comfort, 15 rustic cabins are available with electricity, heat, four walls, fire pits, and picnic tables. Modern amenities include hot showers, flush toilets, and well-maintained restroom facilities. The campground is pet-friendly and features large, level sites with good separation between neighbors. The park's 1,800 acres encompass rolling hills, forest glades, streams, and wildflower meadows crisscrossed by extensive trail networks. Hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians can explore trails ranging from beginner-friendly to steep terrain with territorial views from the upper day-use area. The Banks-Vernonia State Trail, a 21-mile paved path, runs through the park near the entrance. Additional amenities include a seasonal horse camp with 13 equestrian sites, a playground, a 3-hole beginner disc golf course, and a hilltop day-use area popular for stargazing.

Directions

From Portland, drive approximately 29 miles west on US-26. Turn right onto OR-47 north and continue for about 4 miles. The park entrance (30380 NW Hwy 47) will be on the right.
