About
North Lava Flow Campground sits at the southern end of the Cascade Lakes National Scenic Byway on the shores of Davis Lake in the Deschutes National Forest. This small, primitive campground features just 6 sites positioned between the lake and an impressive 30-foot wall of ancient lava flows. Mature ponderosa pines create an open, park-like setting with natural shade throughout the camp. Davis Lake is known for its fishing opportunities and scenic mountain views, though it's not suitable for swimming. The area is home to nesting bald eagles, and portions of the campground may be closed during nesting season to protect these magnificent birds. The campground's remote location and lack of reservations mean it seldom fills up, making it an excellent choice for spontaneous trips. As a free, unmaintained Forest Service campground, facilities are basic but adequate. Vault toilets are provided, but campers must bring all their own water and be prepared to pack out all trash. The campground is typically accessible from April through October, though snow conditions can affect access dates. Winter access depends on snow levels and road maintenance along the Cascade Lakes Highway.
Directions
From Crescent: Travel on Crescent Cutoff Road for approximately 9 miles; turn right onto Cascades Lakes National Scenic Byway; travel for approximately 10 miles until reaching the campground on your left.
