About

Neva Shelter is a three-sided Adirondack-style shelter situated on the eastern shore of Partofshikof Island within Neva Straits, just before St. John Baptist Bay, approximately 21 miles northwest of Sitka in the Tongass National Forest. This remote facility is accessible only by motorized or non-motorized boat, making it ideal for kayakers, boaters, and adventurers exploring the outer coast waters of Southeast Alaska. The shelter provides basic amenities including a wood stove for heating, plywood bunks for sleeping, and a small table. There is no potable water available on-site, so visitors must bring their own water or have the means to treat local water sources. A basic restroom facility is available. The shelter sees light use due to its remote location and boat-access-only nature. This is a first-come, first-served facility that offers protection from the elements in one of Alaska's most pristine wilderness areas. Visitors should be prepared for self-sufficient wilderness camping and changing weather conditions typical of coastal Southeast Alaska.
