About
Allan Point Cabin sits at the edge of a tall, dense hemlock-spruce forest on Halleck Island, facing south with views across Nakwasina Sound. The 20x20-foot two-story cabin offers a main level with a single bunk bed, table, benches, cooking counter, oil heating stove, and two entrances leading to a spacious front deck. A stairway leads to the upper loft with two double-wide bunks and balconies on both sides. Guests must be entirely self-sufficient. There is no electricity, running water, mattresses, bedding, or cooking utensils provided. Potable water is not available; a stream 200 feet west requires treatment before drinking. Guests must bring #1 diesel fuel for the oil stove (approximately 10 gallons for a three-day stay), sleeping gear, cooking equipment, lantern, toilet paper, garbage bags, fire extinguisher, and all food. The cabin serves as an excellent base for saltwater fishing and deer hunting. Brown bears frequent the area, so visitors should follow bear safety precautions. A mooring buoy is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Access is weather and tide dependent year-round.
Directions
Located 16 boat miles north of Sitka on Halleck Island in upper Nakwasina Sound. Accessible by floatplane (10 minutes from Sitka) or boat (30 minutes). Float plane and boat access can only occur at certain tidal stages. Boat operators should use charts to locate dangerous rocks toward the east side of the bay on approach.
