About
White River Campground sits in a stand of mature cedar along the banks of the White River at an altitude of 4,000 feet in the Sequoia National Forest. This remote, tent-only campground is set back a distance from the road, offering a peaceful retreat in the southern Sierra Nevada. The campground is approximately 8 miles from the popular California Hot Springs and provides access to nearby giant sequoia groves. The White River narrows to a creek-size width near the campgrounds, making it ideal for fishing, hiking, and camp-side river wading. The Sequoia National Forest comprises about 1.1 million acres with elevations ranging from 1,000 to 12,000 feet, creating precipitous canyons and mountain streams with spectacular waterfalls. Visitors enjoy exploring the nearby sequoia groves, including the White River and Deer Creek Grove. This is a remote location with no nearby services. Access requires navigating steep roads with switchbacks and a long winding route. The final approach includes 3 miles on gravel road before crossing a bridge, with the campground entrance a quarter-mile past the bridge. The campground is operated by Sequoia Recreation, a division of California Land Management. This is bear country, and food must be stored in approved containers.
Directions
From Highway 99, turn east onto J22. Proceed on J22 through California Hot Springs to the T intersection. Turn right at intersection M56 through Pineflat. Go 3 miles on the gravel road and turn directly across the bridge. The entrance is a quarter-mile past the bridge on the right side.
