About

Frog Meadow Guard Station is a historic rental cabin located at 7,760 feet elevation in the Giant Sequoia National Monument within Sequoia National Forest. The cabin sits among firs and pines overlooking a scenic meadow where cattle and deer are often spotted grazing during early morning and evening hours. The furnished cabin includes indoor bathroom facilities with tub/shower, sink, and toilet, plus a kitchen area with table and chairs, couches, and beds with mattresses. However, the cabin lacks electricity. The location offers excellent opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, wildlife viewing, and stargazing. The nearby Tobias Peak Lookout at 8,300 feet elevation provides spectacular views of Mt. Whitney, the Golden Trout Wilderness, and the Great Western Divide. The lookout tower is an exceptional spot for bird watching, where visitors may observe goshawks, golden eagles, red tail hawks, sparrow hawks, turkey vultures, and occasionally California condors. The cabin can accommodate up to 8 people and 2 vehicles. Access requires navigating forest roads that can be narrow and rough, with 4WD potentially necessary during wet conditions. Reservations are made through Recreation.gov when the facility is operational.
