About

Located 10 miles southeast of Marenisco in the Bessemer Ranger District of Ottawa National Forest, Moosehead Lake Campground offers a quiet, remote camping experience on a border lake shared with Wisconsin. The campground consists of a single loop with 8 campsites, all naturally screened with vegetation to provide excellent privacy. Each site is equipped with a tent pad, accessible picnic table, fire ring, and parking spur capable of accommodating tents, trailers, and motorhomes. The campground provides two vault toilets and a centrally located pressurized water faucet during the full service season. Adjacent to the campground is a concrete boat ramp offering access to Moosehead Lake, a fairly deep mixed cold/warm water fishery. A channel connects Moosehead Lake to Little Presque Isle Lake in Wisconsin, expanding boating opportunities. Anglers can target northern pike, largemouth bass, muskellunge, crappie, and bluegill. Access requires navigating several miles of forest roads from either US-2 and M-64. The remote location and light usage make this an ideal destination for campers seeking solitude in Michigan's Upper Peninsula backcountry. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis only with no advance reservations available.
