About

Lynx Campground is located in the Lynx Lake Recreation Area at 5,600 feet elevation in the Prescott National Forest, approximately seven miles southeast of Prescott, Arizona. The campground sits along the west shoreline of the popular 55-acre Lynx Lake, within a ponderosa pine ecosystem mixed with alligator juniper, oak species, and native grasses. With pleasant summer temperatures and cool breezes, the area attracts more than 90,000 visitors each year. The campground offers 35 single campsites and 4 double campsites, each equipped with picnic tables, fire rings, and grills. Both vault and flush toilets are available, along with drinking water and garbage service. Maximum vehicle lengths vary by site from 22 to 35 feet, though no RV hookups are provided and filling RV water tanks is prohibited. The campground road and spurs are paved for easy access. Recreational opportunities abound in the Lynx Lake Recreation Area. The lake features a boat ramp and allows boats with 10 HP motors or less, as well as oar, paddle, or sail-powered boats. Several trail systems within the area accommodate multiple uses, with most trails open to horseback riders, mountain bikers, and hikers. Exceptions include the Lynx Creek Ruin Trail and Loop Trail, which are hiking-only. Wildlife viewing is exceptional, with bald eagles, ospreys, great blue herons, deer, and various other species frequently spotted. Recreational gold panning is permitted using hand tools only. Forest Service day-use facilities in the Prescott Basin are accessible at no additional fee with a complimentary pass from the volunteer host.

Directions

From Highway 69, turn south on Walker Road (by Costco, 5 miles east of Prescott) and continue approximately 3 miles. The campground is on the left side of Walker Road. The campground road and spurs are paved.
