About

McWilliams Campground is located in the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area, a forested desert oasis just 50 miles from downtown Las Vegas. Situated at approximately 8,500 feet elevation, the campground is nestled in a scenic Ponderosa and white pine forest that offers partial shade and breathtaking views of the surrounding Spring Mountains. The area is a beautiful island in the desert, brimming with diverse flora and fauna, including the ancient Bristlecone pine and the rare Mount Charleston blue butterfly. The campground contains approximately 75 single and double-family sites spread across five loops: Eureka, McWill, Dolomite, Oxbow, and Old D. All sites feature picnic tables, grills, and campfire rings. The facility offers paved roads and parking spurs, flush toilets, drinking water, and trash collection. During the summer season (typically May through October), the entire campground operates with both reservable and first-come, first-served sites. In winter, sites 1-14 remain open and are managed by Lee Canyon Ski Resort. Recreation opportunities abound with the 6.2-mile Bristlecone Trail accessible from upper and lower trailheads just above and below the campground. The 1.3-mile Sawmill Trail begins about four miles below the campground off State Route 156. More than 60 miles of hiking and horseback riding trails crisscross the area. The Spring Mountains Visitor Center in Kyle Canyon offers guided hikes, educational programs, and interpretive displays on local plants, animals, and history.

Directions

From Las Vegas, Nevada, take Highway 95 north 29 miles to junction with State Route 156/Lee Canyon. Turn left and travel 19.5 miles to the campground, which is on the right.
