About
Little Pool Hiker-Biker Campsite sits at mile 120.4 along the historic Chesapeake and Ohio Canal towpath in Washington County, Maryland. Like the other 30+ hiker-biker sites along the 184.5-mile towpath, this primitive campsite is designed for cyclists, hikers, and backpackers traveling the canal corridor. The site is free and operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations accepted and a one-night stay limit. The campsite provides basic amenities including a chemical toilet (available year-round), picnic table, and grill. Fires are restricted to the provided grill or portable grills positioned off the ground, and coals must be extinguished and removed from the park. Water is available on-site, but it is non-potable and not treated. Campers must filter, chemically treat, or boil the water before use for drinking or cooking. Located near Hancock, the site is accessible only by foot, bicycle, or horseback via the towpath. Water at the site is turned off from mid-November through mid-April each year due to freezing conditions. The C&O Canal National Historical Park follows Leave No Trace principles, and campers are expected to pack out all trash. The site accommodates up to eight people per night.
