About

Licking Creek Hiker-Biker Campsite is one of many primitive campsites spaced every 5-7 miles along the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park towpath. Located at Mile 116, it serves as a free, no-reservation-required rest stop for long-distance hikers and bikers traversing the historic canal route between Washington, DC and Cumberland, Maryland. The site includes a chemical toilet, picnic table, and fire ring/grill at each campsite. Well water is available but is non-potable and must be filtered, chemically treated, or boiled before drinking or cooking. The water system operates from mid-April through mid-November; pump handles are removed during winter for freeze protection. Campers should pack accordingly. This is a pack-it-out facility with no trash service. Fires are restricted to the provided fire rings or portable grills positioned off the ground, and all coals must be extinguished and removed. Stays are limited to one night per site, with quiet hours from 10 pm to 6 am. The campsite accommodates 5-10 tents depending on site signage.
