About
Chirpchatter Campground sits at approximately 2,300 feet elevation in a forested area east of Shasta Lake within the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. This small, remote campground features 5 primitive sites tucked among shady trees, each with a picnic table. Vault toilets are provided, but there is no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply.
The campground is free and operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations. This is a pack-it-in, pack-it-out facility with no trash services. The access road, Fenders Ferry Road, is a rough unimproved dirt road requiring careful navigation. Trailers up to 24 feet can be accommodated, though the road conditions make larger rigs impractical.
This location is particularly popular with OHV enthusiasts who use it as a base camp for riding in the surrounding National Forest. The campground also sees heavy use during fall hunting season. Note that there is no lake access from this facility despite its proximity to the Shasta Lake area.
Directions
