About

Groom Creek Horse Camp is a dedicated equestrian campground located seven miles south of Prescott, Arizona in the Prescott National Forest at an elevation of 6,398 feet. A Forest Order requires all campers to be accompanied by trail-riding livestock (horses or mules). The campground is set among ponderosa pines mixed with alligator juniper and oak species, offering a scenic mountain setting for horse camping. The facility features 36 campsites across three loops: Loop A has 6 first-come-first-served sites, while Loops B and C contain 30 reservable sites, 27 of which are pull-through. Each site is equipped with a 16'x16' steel corral, overhead tether line accommodating 2-4 horses, wood picnic table, steel fire ring, and packed gravel driveway. Two group picnic sites are also available for gatherings. Vault toilets, drinking water faucets, and trash dumpsters are provided throughout the campground. Three trails are accessible from or near the campground. The Horse Camp Loop Trail 383 (2 miles) can be accessed from Loop C or the campground entrance. Wolf Creek Loop Trail 384 (5 miles) connects from the Horse Camp Loop. The Groom Creek Loop Trail 307 (9 miles) is accessed from the trailhead directly across from the campground entrance. These trails are shared with mountain bikers and hikers.
