About

Kading Campground occupies a scenic location adjacent to the Little Blackfoot River in the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest. The campground provides access to the proposed Electric Peak Wilderness Area and serves as a basecamp for fishing, hunting, and hiking in central Montana's mountain country. The Little Blackfoot River offers excellent fly fishing for brown trout below Elliston and brook and cutthroat trout above. A trail departing near the campground heads south to Blackfoot Meadows and continues into the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest, emerging near Whitehouse Campground. A small public corral located across the road accommodates horses and pack stock. Facilities are primitive with vault toilets but no potable water. Campers should bring their own drinking water. The narrow access road and limited site sizes restrict use to smaller trailers, with a maximum recommended trailer length of 16 feet.

Directions

From Helena, take US Highway 12 west approximately 25 miles to Elliston. Just east of Elliston, turn south onto Little Blackfoot River Road. Continue approximately 16 miles to the campground on the left (east) side of the road, directly across from Kading Cabin.
