About

Lower Bucks Campground is a rustic lakeside retreat located on the shores of Bucks Lake in the Plumas National Forest. The campground features just 7 shady sites positioned along the lakeshore, providing an intimate camping experience in a high mountain setting. Bucks Lake is surrounded by the Bucks Lake Wilderness on one side and recreation residences and resorts on the other, offering a blend of wilderness scenery and convenient access to supplies and services. This campground is particularly popular with hunters and those seeking a quieter alternative to the larger developed campgrounds in the area. Each site includes a bear box for secure food storage, reflecting the active wildlife in the region. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations available. Recreation opportunities abound at Lower Bucks. The lake provides excellent fishing, motorized and non-motorized boating, and swimming. OHV trail riding is accessible from the area, and the nearby Bucks Lake Wilderness offers backcountry hiking opportunities. Boat rentals and supplies are available at nearby resorts. Campers should come prepared with their own water supply and be ready for primitive conditions, as the campground lacks potable water and restrooms.
