About
Hutchins Group Campground is situated in the Bucks Lake Recreation Area of Plumas National Forest, making it an excellent base camp for groups looking to explore the greater Bucks Lake area. The campground features three group sites (A, B, and C), each capable of accommodating up to 25 people with a maximum of 8 vehicles per site. All sites offer back-in driveways with a 27-foot maximum vehicle length limit. Each site is equipped with multiple picnic tables, fire rings with grills, and bear-resistant food storage boxes. Vault toilets are available on-site. However, campers should be aware that potable water is currently unavailable at the campground; water can be obtained at nearby Sandy Point Day Use Area or Haskins Campground. Showers are not available on-site but can be found at the Shady Point boat ramp. The campground was severely impacted by the Dixie Fire in 2021, and subsequent timber salvage has left the area barren with limited natural shade. Groups should come prepared with adequate shade structures. The Bucks Lake area offers excellent opportunities for fishing, boating, canoeing, and swimming. Hiking trails are accessible nearby at Mill Creek Campground, Mill Creek Trailhead, and Bucks Summit where the Pacific Crest Trail is located.
Directions
From Quincy, travel west on Bucks Lake Road for approximately 17 miles. From Oroville, travel east on Highway 162 (Oro-Quincy Highway) for approximately 45 miles to Bucks Lake Dam Road, turn left and continue 3 miles to the campground.
