About

Los Banos Creek Campground is a primitive shoreline campground situated along the scenic Los Banos Creek Reservoir in Merced County, California. Part of the larger San Luis Reservoir State Recreation Area, this secluded area offers 14 undeveloped camping sites, most featuring shade ramadas to provide relief from the warm San Joaquin Valley sun. All sites include concrete picnic tables and fire stoves. The campground caters primarily to tent campers and anglers, as most sites cannot accommodate trailers or motorhomes due to limited turnaround space and restricted parking. A 5 mph speed limit on the reservoir keeps the water calm for fishing enthusiasts pursuing largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, catfish, and seasonal trout. Boaters may beach their vessels at campsites, though boating is prohibited after sunset. Chemical toilets are available but there is no potable water on-site, so campers must bring their own supply. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis and may close once all sites are occupied due to limited parking. Winter closures can occur when water is released from the reservoir.
