About

McConnell State Recreation Area sits along a scenic stretch of the Merced River in California's Central Valley. The 74-acre park features tranquil campgrounds shaded by mature trees, grassy fields, and direct river access. Campers can fish for largemouth, smallmouth, and striped bass, bluegill, and catfish, or simply wade and swim in the river during warmer months. The campground includes standard sites and group camping areas, all equipped with fire rings and picnic tables. Modern facilities include flush restrooms with hot showers and potable water. Three campsites (#5, #6, and #21) are designated ADA-accessible with firm surfaces. A beach wheelchair is available upon request. The campfire center has been redesigned with accessible paths and wheelchair spaces. Reservations are made through ReserveCalifornia up to six months in advance. Dogs are permitted in the campground only and must remain on a leash of 6 feet or less. Quiet hours are enforced 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., with generators allowed 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
