About

McConnell State Recreation Area Group Campground offers two group camping sites on the banks of the Merced River, providing a peaceful retreat for large parties, families, and organizations. One group site accommodates up to 50 people and 12 vehicles, while the other serves up to 24 people and 6 vehicles. Both sites feature 20 amp electric hookups, picnic tables, and access to barbecue facilities. The 74-acre park is characterized by mature shade trees, grassy fields, and the slow-moving Merced River. Campers can enjoy fishing for largemouth and smallmouth bass, bluegill, catfish, and other species, particularly during summer months. The river also offers swimming opportunities, though visitors should be aware of deep holes beneath the surface. A network of hiking trails provides nature study opportunities. The group campground supports RVs and trailers with a maximum motorhome length of 30 feet and maximum trailer length of 24 feet. Restrooms and drinking water are available. Dogs are permitted in the campground on leash but not allowed on trails or beaches. Quiet hours run from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., with check-in at 2 p.m. and check-out at noon.

Directions

The recreation area is 4 miles east of Delhi. From the South Avenue exit off Highway 99, go east to Pepper Street, turn right. Continue south to 2nd Avenue, turn left. Proceed to McConnell Road and the park entrance.
