Black Canyon Rim Campground is nestled among towering ponderosa pines at 7,600 feet on Arizona's Mogollon Rim. The campground features 20 non-electric sites on relatively flat, sandy terrain connected by gravel roads. Each site includes a campfire ring with grill and a picnic table. Amenities include vault toilets, potable drinking water, trash service, and a campground host. All sites accommodate tents and pop-up campers, with some suitable for pull trailers, fifth-wheels, and motorhomes up to 40 feet. Black Canyon Lake lies approximately 2.5 miles northeast via Forest Road 86, offering fishing and boating with motors up to 10 HP. A herd of wild horses frequents the area and can often be seen near the lake. Within walking distance of the campground is the historic grave site of Stott, Scott, and Wilson, three young men lynched during Arizona's notorious Pleasant Valley War. The campground operates seasonally from May 1 through mid-October (Columbus Day weekend). Reservations are available through Recreation.gov. Only quiet generators are permitted, and firewood should not be transported to prevent spread of invasive species. Due to the high elevation, visitors arriving from lower elevations should take time to acclimate.

Directions

From Heber, Arizona, travel west on Highway 260 approximately 13 miles. Turn south onto Forest Road 300 and continue approximately 3 miles. Access the campground via Forest Road 86 at the intersection with Forest Road 300.
