About
Lazy Bend Campground occupies a scenic location along the Wild and Scenic Clackamas River in Oregon's Mt. Hood National Forest, about 15 miles southeast of Estacada at 800 feet elevation. The 21-site campground historically offered opportunities for fishing (winter steelhead, spring Chinook, and late summer Coho salmon), whitewater rafting, kayaking, and swimming. The campground sustained extensive damage during the 2020 Riverside Fire, losing virtually all of its tree cover. The Forest Service has partnered with RANGE, a Portland-based landscape architecture firm, and the National Forest Foundation to redesign Lazy Bend along with six other fire-damaged campgrounds in the Upper Clackamas River corridor. Recovery and redesign work is ongoing, but no reopening date has been announced. When operational, the campground featured picnic tables and fire rings at each site, vault toilets, and drinking water from a hand pump. Vehicle length was limited to 24 feet, making it unsuitable for large RVs.
Directions
From Estacada, OR, travel southeast on Highway 224 for approximately 15 miles. The campground is accessed just off the highway.
