About

Rainbow Campground provides access to the Wild and Scenic Clackamas River in the Cascade Range of northern Oregon. Located at approximately 1,400 feet elevation on the Oak Grove Fork, the campground sits beneath towering Douglas fir and big-leaf maple trees, with dense understory providing privacy between sites. The area reopened in September 2024 after extensive restoration following the 2020 Riverside Fire, which burned over 138,000 acres and damaged 26 campgrounds in Mt. Hood National Forest. The campground offers 16 tent sites, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring with grill. Accessible vault toilets are available, but campers must bring their own drinking water. Maximum vehicle length is 24 feet. The adjacent 3.7-mile Riverside Trail offers hiking and mountain biking through old-growth forest along the river. Fishing is popular here, with opportunities for winter steelhead, spring Chinook, and late summer Kokanee salmon. Whitewater rafting on the Clackamas River is another draw. Bagby Hot Springs, with its historic bathhouses fed by natural hot springs, lies about 14 miles southwest.
