About
Fish Creek Campground is located next to the Clackamas Wild and Scenic River at approximately 900 feet elevation in Mt. Hood National Forest. The heavily forested setting features a variety of bushes, ferns, and grasses covering the forest floor, with the river providing natural sound buffering between sites. The area supports federally protected bald eagles and northern spotted owls, as well as occasional peregrine falcons. The Clackamas River is renowned for winter steelhead, spring chinook, and late summer coho salmon fishing, with a convenient boat ramp located within the campground. The river also provides prime whitewater rafting opportunities as it bends through the scenic Cascade Range. A hiking trail follows the river both north and south from the campground, and scenic driving is available along the West Cascades Scenic Byway. Mt. Hood, Oregon's tallest peak, is about an hour's drive away. The campground sustained extensive damage from the 2020 Riverside Fire and remains closed. The Forest Service is partnering with a landscape architecture firm and the National Forest Foundation to redesign the campground as part of a larger recovery effort for damaged recreation sites along the Upper Clackamas River.
